The Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 Space Probes were launched in 1977. Voyager 1 is currently the farthest human-made object from Earth at a distance of 119 astronomical units (1.78×1010 km). It has been continuously operating for over 34 years and will likely be the first space probe ever to leave the solar system. The date on this button commemorates Voyager 1’s closest approach to Jupiter which occurred on March 5, 1979.
